Creating a Character

Choose a name. Regret it forever.

Before stepping into the world of Mystavaria, you must first create your character β€” the in-game persona through which you'll explore, fight, roleplay, and build your story.

If you're unfamiliar with MUDs or roleplaying games, think of a "character" as your fictional self in a fantasy world. This isn't a username or screenname β€” it's the persona others in the world will know you as. Your character can be noble or wicked, brave or careful, clever or wild. Choose wisely... or don't. That's always fun, too.

πŸ” Account First, Character Second

Before creating a character, you must first register an account either:

  • On our website
  • Or by connecting directly via a MUD client

Once logged in, you’ll enter what we call the OOC Menu (Out-of-Character Menu), where you can create a new character using the CHARCREATE command. At the OOC Menu, you can type HELP CHARCREATE for in-game assistance.

πŸ§™ Step-by-Step: Character Creation

  1. Choose a Name

Select a name appropriate for a fantasy setting following the below guidelines:

    • Must be unique
    • Should not include numbers, spaces, or special characters
    • Should not include titles like "Sir," "Lady," etc. (Titles like this can be set separately in the game world.)
    • Should feel like a person’s name, not a handle or screenname
    • Should not include a last name (You can set an in-game suffix for this later.)

  2. Pronoun Selection

Choose your character's pronouns/gender identity. This is used cosmetically in emotes and game text but has no effect on gameplay or mechanics. Gender can be changed at any time later within the game if desired.

  3. Describe Your Character (optional)

During character creation, you'll have an opportunity to write a short physical description of your character. This is what other players will see when they LOOK at your character. It should focus on your physical appearance, highlighting attributes such as:

    • Eye, hair, and skin colour
    • Height, stature, posture
    • Facial features or distinct markings

You should not include descriptions of clothing, weapons, or items β€” these will automatically appear and change dynamically based on what your character is actually wearing or wielding in-game.

Note: Mystavaria is a raceless world in terms of mechanics. All characters begin equal with no stat or skill advantages based on race. That said, you're free to describe your character as anything you dream β€” elf, orc, dryad, changeling, or something else entirely. All players start on equal footing. There are no stat rolls, no race bonuses, no early advantages. Your character becomes powerful through your decisions β€” not through luck, privilege, or background.

Descriptions can be set or changed later, so don't worry if you're not sure what you want your character to look like just yet.

  4. Enter the World

Once you're ready, simply press enter! From there, you'll awaken in the realm of Mystavaria.

After this, you'll enter a tutorial β€” a short, guided experience where you'll learn the basics of movement, commands, skills, and interacting with the world. Follow the instructions provided and explore freely.

Note: You won’t choose your profession or starting city during character creation β€” those come later, during or after the tutorial. You'll be guided through the options at the right time and introduced to them naturally as you explore.
