Help: City Promotions
Seeking promotion within a settlement is an aspiration shared by many, as
settlements have a wide variety of ranks and titles to be earned. New citizens
begin at the rank of "Commoner", but there are many ranks (seen in HELP RANKS)
to ascend through to gain more privileges within your settlement. Settlement
promotions can be gained through two distinct avenues: bestowed promotions
given by the crown leader and promotion by right of longevity.
Bestowed Promotions
The crown leader of a settlement has the power to bestow promotions upon
worthy citizens. These promotions are granted based on exemplary actions,
exceptional achievements, notable contributions, and/or dedicated service
to the settlement. Bestowed promotions are honourable recognition for
significant accomplishments and acts of service that have positively impacted
the community.
To enact a promotion, the crown ruler may issue the command CROWN PROMOTE
citizen>. Note, while less common, leadership can also enact demotions
against a citizen should they see fit. This can be done using CROWN DEMOTE
<citizen>.
Promotion by Right of Longevity
The second method of promotion is less immediate, but seeks to recognise
citizens who maintain loyalty to their settlement for many years, regardless
of whether their achievements draw the attention of the crown leader or not.
Once a citizen has maintained citizenship and held their rank for a substantial
period of time, they become eligible for promotion by right of longevity. This
type of promotion emphasizes the importance of loyalty, continuity, and
reliability.
When eligible for promotion by right of longevity, you may seek out any
player or NPC with high enough stature in the settlement and REQUEST
PROMOTION FROM <NPC/player>. So long as you are eligible, NPCs are usually
happy to bestow the promotion. Requesting from a player citizen requires the
other player to consent to your promotion.
As your rank grows, the tenure required to be eligible for longevity
promotion also increases. Bestowed promotions may be awarded at any time and
bypass this requirement.
