🏛️ Organisations, Politics & Governments

Join a council. Regret it forever. Get re-elected anyway.

Mystavaria is shaped by the ambitions of its people. From humble clans to sprawling cities, from apprentice guildmembers to crowned royalty — your social identity can evolve just as powerfully as your skills. This page details how to join and rise through the ranks of cities, guilds, and clans, and what role you can play in their governance and legacy.

🏘️ Settlements & Citizenship

As you explore Mystavaria, you'll come across many settlements, each with its own style, culture, and political structure. These range from quiet villages to busy towns, flourishing cities, and even full-fledged Kingdoms.

The first two major cities — Meliura and Praestantia — welcome newcomers openly. Other settlements may require proving yourself or befriending a citizen (NPC or player) with authority to gain citizenship.

While citizenship is optional, it is often recommended to players completely new to MUDs as it can make life easier as a result of having allies, shops, and resources readily availabile to you.

  • Use SETTLEMENTS to see a list of towns, villages, and cities across the realm
  • Use CITYHELP <settlement> to learn more about any city or settlement's history, ideals, and structure

When you are ready, seek out a citizen or NPC of the settlement you desire to join and REQUEST CITIZENSHIP FROM <player or NPC>.

🧭 Organisational Ranks

Whether in a city, a guild, or a clan, your rank reflects your dedication and influence.

Settlement Ranks
Upon becoming a citizen, you begin as a Commoner, and can earn noble titles all the way up to Archduke/Archduchess through service, time, and contribution.

Additional ranks are applicable to the noble leadership and government officials. Amongst these are the crowned Prince/Princess, who is the oathed city leader, the Consul/Regnant (appointed right and left hand of the leader), the Magistrates (elected officials with the power to oath and veto the city leader), the Magister (a public guide for new citizens), the divinely appointed Cardinal, and the honoured Knight or Dame.

Guild Ranks
Guilds emphasize skill mastery and shared ideals. All begin as Apprentices and can rise through the ranks to a full-fledge Guildsman/Guildswoman and even Guildmaster by contribution, loyalty, or election.

Clan Ranks
Clans are less formal and more flexible player-run groups with minimal rankings. New members start as Initiates, progress to Clansman/Clanswoman, and long standing members are recognised by the rank of Veteran.

Use RANKS to see your standing in any organisation.

📈 Promotion & Progression

Promotions can be given directly by leaders or earned through:

  • Time spent in the organisation
  • Contributions and loyalty
  • Outstanding deeds or reputation

When eligible, use the appropriate request command to ask for promotion from high-ranking citizens or guild officials, or designated NPCs with appropriate authority within the organisation. This system is designed to ensure progress is always possible, even when no other players are around.

🏛️ Politics & Governance

City governments are composed of:

  • City Leader: The crowned ruler (Prince/Princess, King/Queen, etc.)
  • Consuls: Appointed right and left hand advisors
  • Magistrates: Elected citizens with the power to oath in leadership
  • Magister: Appointed guide and civic liaison for new citizens

Guilds operate similarly, with elections to determine Guildmasters. All citizens and guildmembers can VOTE in their respective elections.

🌱 Founding Clans, Guilds or Settlements

Founding an organisation is an ambitious journey — ideal for those pursuing political or social legacies.

The first step in the creation of any organisation is to start by founding a clan of like-minded members who share the clan's goals and aspirations. There are couple types of clans, which are categorised by their set "intentions". The intention defines what the long term goal of the clan is, as clans are the starting point for those who yearn to establish their own guild or found a new settlement.

The three types of intentions are as follows:

  • GUILD — The clan intends to grow into a new guild.
  • CITY — The clan intends to grow into a new city or settlement.
  • CLAN — The clan intends to remain a clan for all of time.

Clan intentions are determined at the time a new clan is founded and cannot be changed without divine intervention. As founding a new organisation is an arduous goal, we will leave you to learn the exact details of requesting a clan deed by exploring HELP CLANS in game.
