📈 Experience & Progression
Growth: learning from one mistake at a time.
Mystavaria offers a rich and layered system for character growth, allowing you to shape your destiny through skills, story, and social affiliations. From gaining experience in the field to joining renowned guilds or noble cities, this page explains the core systems of progression.
⬆️ Gaining Experience & Leveling Up
Experience (or XP) is a measure of your capabilities and growth as an adventurer. As you explore the realm and engage in various activities, you will earn experience, which contributes to your overall progress and level.
The following commands can be used to gauge your accumulated experience:
XP
- Quick view to see the exact amount of experience you have accumulated and your XP worthLEVEL
- See your current level and highest level achievedSCORE
- Greater overview of your character's level, experience, and standing in the realm
At present, there are three primary ways to earn experience:
- Completing quests, puzzles, or helping NPCs
- Defeating mobs, animals, and NPCs (PVE) or other players (PVP) in combat
- Exploring and engaging with the world to earn accolades
As you accumulate experience, your character will advance through different levels. Your level starts at 1 and increases as you gain more experience, with the maximum achievable level being 51.
Upon achieving a new level, your maximum health and mana will increase. In addition, you will receive a bonus of 20 lessons the first time you reach a level you have not achieved previously.
It is worth noting that it is possible to lose experience (most frequently a side effect and consequence of death). Significant experience loss can also result in the loss of levels, meaning your health and mana may fluctuate.
⚔️ Professions (AKA Classes)
While most are familiar with the concept of classes, in Mystavaria, classes are referred to as professions. Each profession has unique benefits and offers a different selection of skills and abilities to be learned and mastered. The five professions are:
- Mage
- Warrior
- Seer
- Sylvan
- Cultist
It is advised to take your time and research each of the professions and skills or talk to other Mystavarians before making your choice. When ready, you must seek out the Bridge of Power in Arborvella and issue the command CHOOSE <profession>
to set your choice in stone.
While your profession choice should be given careful consideration, it is possible to QUIT <profession>
and select another if you ever have a change of heart. Quitting your profession will renounce your ability to use and knowledge of any major skills you have learned. You will be refunded your major skillpoints and a portion of lessons, thus free to pursue and learn another.
🧠 Learning Skills
Skills define your capabilities in the world. They range from combat forms to magic schools, utility skills, and crafts.

There are five types of skills in Mystavaria, each with their own unique essence and purpose:
- Major Skills — Your most unique, profession/class related skills
- Minor Skills — Specialised skills designed to supplement your major skills, offering additional utility and unique abilities
- Crafting Skills — Skills for creating various types of items from weapons and armour to clothing and furniture
- Gathering Skills — Skills for harvesting certain types of realm resources
- General Skills — Skills which every Mystavarian is born with
Mystavarians are born into the world with a set number of SKILLPOINTS
in each category (except for Generals). When you acquire a new skill, it will use up one skillpoint from the corresponding category.
🏰 Joining Organisations
Characters can join structured groups that offer reputation, ranks, and companionship:
- Cities:
Join one of Mystavaria's settlements to gain safe housing, comrades, access to the settlement's trade market, and develop regional influence. - Guilds:
Guilds are centred around players with the same profession and/or similar skills. These organisations provide a place to learn and master your skills from and with fellow mentors and guides. Some guilds are public and open for all to join, while others require the approval of a guildmaster or other high ranking guild official. - Clans:
Clans are the least structured and least formal organisation. They are player-created and focus on shared goals or ideologies. They may offer private bases, companionship, and shared resources. - Order:
The deities are an undeniable presence in the lives of Mystavarians. They represent different realms and may be good or evil, chaotic or neutral, kind or cruel. Players can choose a divine patron, forming a bond of patronage. Each deity is different and many orders may have their own rules or objectives. Only by interaction should your choice of patron be informed.

🏅 Accolades, Ethos & Reputation
Progression isn't just numbers. Whenever you are in the realm of Mystavaria, you will have many ways and opportunities to experience the world. You may discover and complete a new quest for the first time, explore new areas or uncover hidden secrets, witness an important event, or even perform new activities or reach certain milestones.
All of these actions and events will earn you ACCOLADES
, marks of accomplishment that recognise your achievements and growth in the land. Accolades come in many different types and build your character's ETHOS
, a representation of your general beliefs and ideals.
